International Storytelling Festival
“Whether you are addicted to love, alcohol, your own reflection or your smartphone… During The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, you can confess it honestly, because this year’s theme is: Addiction.”
This festival aims at celebrating the art of storytelling and features performances from international and Dutch storytellers. Events are held at various locations through the city and many of the performances are in English. Tickets range from EUR 5- 15 and can be found here.
Unseen Amsterdam
This event is for the photographer in you, it celebrates developments in contemporary photography, and features a range of exhibitions and a large programme of events. National and international galleries will show their most cutting-edge works by up-and-coming photographers. Tickets start at EUR 15, and can be found here.
Heritage Day
Important buildings, monuments, and even private homes are open to the public! You can celebrate and learn more about Amsterdam’s rich history in places you wouldn’t normally get to see (or would normally have to pay for). There are also theater performaces, exhibitions, and performaces throughout the city this weekend. You can find out more about what will be open here.
Amsterdam Fringe Festival
“Fringe is a platform and sanctuary for quirky makers and their audience. Young talent, inventors, niche virtuosos, hybrids, out-of-boxers, post-avant-gardists, strange birds, wildcards and the deliberately artistically homeless: they invite you to join us on a Fringe adventure along the fringes of the theater and the city.”
If you haven’t been to a fringe festival in your life, you are missing out. This avant-garde event celebrates eccentricity in performance; with cutting-edge productions, the fringe is the ultimate ode to artistic independence. Performers and produces come from all over the world, so there is something for everyone (even those of us who don’t speak Dutch). You can see the full programme here.
