Tutor Showcase (Double Feature): Aiden Hoyle & Julian Burger

Grey Matters: a psychological perspective on hybrid warfare

Aiden works on an applied PhD project with TNO: Defense, Safety and Security, the Dutch Royal Defence Academy and UvA, seeking to improve resilience against ‘hybrid threats’. His research centres on providing a psychological perspective on the use of information warfare.

Aiden teaches Decision Making 1 and Integrative Seminar 3: International Security.

Complexity science and dynamical systems of mental health

Julian’s research is focused on understanding mental health from a dynamical systems perspective. During this presentation, he will discuss links to complexity science and dynamical systems theory, which can be used to understand critical transitions, not only in mental health, but also in regards to societal phenomena.

Julian teaches Skills & Research Methods: Psychology, Integrative Seminar III: Security

Aiden and Julian will also talk about what it’s like doing a PhD. They wanted to do this presentation together as both of their research concerns applied psychological research: Julian’s for mental health and Aiden’ for security context.
