Allison Hatch

Allison graduated from PPLE in 2019 with a major in law. Currently, she is studying for a master’s degree in International Business Law at the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam. On top of that, she is doing a record label traineeship at Bloomer Records and works at the European Football Agent Association (EFAA). She told us more about why she made certain choices after PPLE and how she reflects on her bachelor programme.

During her time at PPLE, Allison was working as an intern at the EFAA and initially had her mind set on a master’s in Sports Law. The eventual decision for the Finance and Behaviour track in International Business Law was motivated by the broader applicability of knowledge in this programme. “As a classical PPLE student, I still wanted a broad perspective.”  Now she is more drawn towards the music industry and is exploring her options at Bloomer Records. “Before PPLE I was studying Fashion and now I am back in a creative industry. Am I repeating the same cycle?”  Starting in fashion, working at a football agency, now with her focus on the music industry: Allison is a real-life example of following your passion rather than your skill. Eventually, you will be able to apply your talents in many places. The beauty is you get to decide where.

What’s most interesting about Allison’s working experience is the ways in which she found those companies. Rather than browsing a student job vacancy website, Allison decided first what sort of company she wants to work at, then networked her way in. “In the end, you have to get your experience yourself. Do research yourself and don’t expect others to open doors for you”. If PPLE teaches students one thing, it’s to work hard. That quality is something Allison still benefits from today in both her academic and professional work.

Finally, Allison advises PPLE students to socialise with people from different nationalities. In her experience, friend groups were often segregated along nationality. “What is the point of studying in an international community otherwise? There is such a variety of backgrounds, cultures and stories around you”.
